1 Samuel 10

SAUL BECOMES KING

SAUL BECOMES KING. 1 Samuel 10 God plainly gave the regulations, rights, and duties of a king in Israel through Moses in Deuteronomy 17. They were written again by Samuel and deposited before the Lord at the time of Saul’s public inauguration. These words were to describe to the people and the king what a monarch chosen by God was to be like and what he was to do. That would have been quite different from the form of leadership of the nations around Israel in that the Lord God of Israel was still ruling over the nation even though they had rejected Him as the only ruler.

Leaders of God’s people in an assembly need to be known and recognized by all the believers so that they know no one has the right “to do what is right in their own eyes.” Those who lead God’s people are responsible for following God's written word, and those they lead must also follow what is written in the Bible. Our only statement of faith is the Bible, the written word of God, not what is decided by the vote of the congregation or the leaders.
