1 Thessalonians 4:12

Walk Honestly

Walk Honestly. 1st Thessalonians 4:12 Christianity affirms the dignity and importance of honest work. We can do our tasks as “unto the Lord,” which adds a spiritual aspect and also meets practical needs to support ourselves. Someone who works will not be dependent on others and will not lack anything essential. These two points clearly show what’s important about working. Both are true and meaningful. Christians who are in need because they refuse to work are not following the Lord’s commands.

When Paul sent Titus to Crete, he charged the people there who didn’t like to work to stop being lazy and to maintain good works to meet their urgent needs so they wouldn’t be unproductive. Honest hard work by believers who are able to meet their own needs and help others has a strong influence on unbelievers.

Even though unbelievers are unaware of the blessings of the Gospel, they recognize the difference between hard work and laziness, between relying on the government and being independent, order and chaos in daily life. Those who work will criticize those who don’t. People understand and accept that some individuals are unable to work due to incapacity, but they despise those who claim to be Christians and trust in God yet are simply lazy.

It is our duty before God and man to provide for our families’ needs and be willing and capable of helping others. Unbelievers observe Christians to see how their faith influences their actions in leisure, work, and family life. People of faith should work diligently for their wages and display integrity in all areas of life. To a watching world, believers in Christ must demonstrate their faith both through their words and by their visible actions.
