Sudden Destruction. 1st Thessalonians 5:3 Those who are not Christians will say on that day, “Peace and Safety have finally come. We don’t have those bothersome Christians around.” The separation of God’s people from the world at the rapture of the church will be a relief to those who felt they were the world’s conscience through the way they lived, spoke, and preached the Gospel. Already, some in this country claim that Bible-believing Christians are the greatest threat to the nation because they serve a higher power than the government.
What they do not want is God in their lives. They believe peace means being free to do whatever they want without anyone bothering them mentally, spiritually, or physically. By nature, people are enemies of God and also by their wicked works. There is no fear of God, and they do not know the true way of peace.
Those who do not know or acknowledge the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior have become comfortable with the world around them and say, "Peace and Safety." Their attitude is to live in tolerance and harmony despite the evil and moral wickedness happening around them, some of which they are involved in. They claim to be friendly with everyone and avoid causing any guilt or conscience to stir by preaching the Gospel and warning people about the consequences of sin.
Safety for such people means being protected from disturbance by God's interference in their sinful lifestyle. There will be an end to what is happening, regardless of laws made by godless lawmakers. The inevitable result of neglecting righteousness and justice is sudden destruction, and the start of the day of the Lord will be felt worldwide as millions of people suddenly and inexplicably disappear.
Pride, pleasure, possessions, and personal satisfaction are what unbelievers seek. Even now, people ask, “Where is the promise of His coming?” His coming will occur as suddenly as urgent pain caused by a thief’s attack, and as inevitable as the stabbing pain a child feels just before being born. The disaster of “sudden destruction” (ruin) will happen, and there will be no escaping its consequences.
