IMMORTALITY. 1st Timothy 6:16. Immortality is part of the Lord Jesus Christ; it exists in His being as the Father of eternity. Eternal life is His nature; it is essentially within Him. Immortality is beyond our sight and understanding. He died when “He gave Himself for our sins.” Mortality is a part of my humanity because of sin – “death passed upon all men for all have sinned.” It has been passed on to me as part of the terrible cost of sin. So, it remains with me even though I try to prevent it by eating the right foods, exercising, and visiting a doctor when I am at risk of losing my life. However, it is inevitable that someday, carved on a stone, will be the name “Gaius Goff.” This body I inhabit is very limited and mortal. But all that will change when He returns and I enter heaven with my Lord, carrying the gift of eternal life in a glorified body.
There is One who, by His divine nature, has never been subject to human failure. As a Man, He alone lived in eternal light morally, spiritually, and physically because light is one of the characteristics of He who banishes all darkness. He is the Light of the world, whose character revealed the darkness and sin that people thought they had hidden. His light brings life, offered to those who believe in Him, and it grants immortality, life after death.
Our immortality is assured and will be granted in the future. His immortality is His by His eternal nature. He is the Source of immortality, and although our bodies die because of sin, that will all change when we meet Him in the sky. Our immortal souls will reunite with our bodies again, and a new way of living will begin. We will then be able to approach Him who dwells in light and see Him in His glory with our immortal eyesight.
We will sing our praises to Him and give Him the honor due to Him because of who He is, what He has done for us, and that we have been made righteous before God in Him. We are “accepted in the Beloved.” Any rewards we might receive for faithful service belong to Him, who has given us the right to be called the children of God. He is, and always will be, worthy of our everlasting praise.
Worship and special holy days will not be limited. The light in which He dwells will be reflected by our transformed bodies. Our immortal bodies, joined with our souls, will unite with millions of others to praise Him, honor Him, and glorify Him before God and the holy angels. The immortality that now eludes us will eventually fill every cemetery. Glory, honor, blessing, and power will be our testimony.
