STORE UP. 1st Timothy 6:19. Every day offers me an opportunity to store up “treasure in heaven” in heaven’s bank. Some investments will last forever if we take the time to consider ways to show appreciation to God for His love and grace to us and to those who have blessed us in various ways. One way might be an act of grace I can do to help someone; another could be writing down thoughts that have blessed me and passing them on to bless others. Whichever way I choose, there are consequences to face, which may be good or bad. If I follow the steps of the Savior, I won’t need to retrace the words I write and the songs I sing in praise to my Lord. I trust that both efforts will come from a sincere heart, so He might be adored and honored.
These years of life are just the beginning. A foundation is laid in this life that is only a small part of what I can accumulate in view of the future. What comes later, I will have to leave until I reach home in heaven, but here and now, I can use my time for things that truly matter. There are opportunities to serve the Lord by helping His people wherever I look. These years of living give me chances to store up treasures in heaven, things that will hopefully glorify my Lord and benefit others in the kingdom of God. The results of eternal life lived here increase as we focus on what's truly important, even if only the Lord Jesus Christ sees or knows.
In the future, I am sure there will be a clearer understanding of life, but for now, I can share some insight into my limited perspective. On that day of reckoning, God’s holiness will reveal the significance of small things that I nearly overlooked in my rush to complete a task I took on. Along each path I walk, there are treasures to be found. A simple, well-timed word; often, less is more. An unsolicited effort to address a task left unfinished by me or someone else who couldn’t complete what they started. Maybe a phone call to encourage a son or daughter far from home would have been just what was needed to offer comfort and hope.
I want to store treasures to present to my Lord when I see Him face to face. If, for some reason unknown to me, they bring a small reward, I would like to have it to give to Him so that His glory may be seen and my years of living here on earth will not have been in vain.
