SOUND WORDS. 2nd Timothy 1:13. The framework of what we preach and teach must be maintained exactly as it is, without any alterations. When believed, the Gospel message provides spiritual life and health to those who accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. "Sound words" accomplish this. We are to “hold fast” to what we have been entrusted with, promoting and preserving it for those who trust us to do what they believe we are capable of. Timothy was now entrusted with the responsibility of leading by the apostle Paul and the elders of his home church. He was no longer just a helper. He was confident that God would assist him in addressing and managing the needs that arose. He was to safeguard the teaching of sound words with confidence and Christ-like love for the people, the Word, and the Lord. What he was called to preach and teach was correct and deserved every effort to preserve and pass it on to those willing to listen. The Holy Spirit provides the necessary help to accomplish what must be done. We believe this by faith in God and show love toward others with the same grace Christ Jesus demonstrated when He provided salvation. What I believe and how I present it must be consistent. “Sound words” of doctrine have been given to us to pass on clearly, understandably, orderly, and correctly by teaching the word of God.
When teaching the word of God to believers and preaching the Gospel to unbelievers, it is essential to do so with unwavering faith that is confident, supported by the proper understanding and interpretation of scripture, and applied sensibly. We must show love to those we communicate with and genuinely interest ourselves in them and their spiritual growth. Our union with our Lord Jesus Christ is what makes Christian faith and love make clear and acceptable doctrine to those who hear the word taught.
