2 Timothy 1:15

DISLOYAL

DISLOYAL. 2nd Timothy 1:15 The two men mentioned here may have contributed to the widespread abandonment of people in the province of Asia. Some individuals had heard the word of God at that time and had rejected it. Phygellus and Hermogenes illustrate what Paul had been warning about: cowardice, shame, self-indulgence, and unfaithfulness. There was no doubt about who they were or what they had done.

It seems Paul was referring to some of the leaders in the assemblies in Asia because Timothy was still at Ephesus, the capital of Asia, and communication with those assemblies was ongoing. Instead of viewing it as a privilege and a God-given duty to support Paul, who had brought the Gospel and established churches in Asia, those men refused to support, assist, or identify with him.

Supporting those whom the Lord has entrusted with the task of taking the Gospel into new places allows us to join in their work. The gifts God provides differ, but they are effective when combined. When all are used together in harmony, we can accomplish the goals and responsibilities our Lord has given us. The sower, waterer, and reaper working as a team are essential to gather the harvest when the Lord of the harvest grants the increase. Some will drop out or walk away because the expectations placed on them were too high, and the obligations were more than they were willing to bear.
