2 Timothy 2:11

A FAITHFUL SAYING

A FAITHFUL SAYING. 2nd Timothy 2:11 Some things go together. God allows suffering and hardship in one person to bring blessing to others. There are those whom God will save through preaching the Gospel. We preach the word because that is the work we are called to do. Saving people is what God does, and He will bring the saved ones to be glorified with Christ. A trustworthy saying is that our connection with Christ through death, burial, and resurrection means we now live with Him and will reign with Him forever.

The wording of this verse assumes that we “died with Christ” in the past. Because He died in my place, legally before God, I died when He died for me on the cross, bearing my sins in His own body. We then have died to sin and self because we have been united with our Lord Jesus Christ in His death and resurrection [Rom.6:3-11]. Now, and for all eternity, we will share in the life of Christ.

There is suffering and rejection now, and that is to be expected because of our identification with the Lord Jesus Christ. No matter what causes death, the fact remains that we will live with Christ, who will raise the dead. Suffering for Him now gives us the privilege of sharing in His glory and victory in the future. The judgment seat of Christ will recognize and reward "things done in the body." The future kingdom will be where we "will reign with Him."

God promises that we will live forever with Him and take part in the affairs of the kingdom of God and everything it involves. Being in the kingdom of God now and “in Christ,” who is rejected by the world, means we will be rejected by those who want nothing to do with the Gospel. Those who know and preach salvation by grace alone will face persecution when they live “godly in Christ Jesus.” There are some things we will have to face temporarily while we live here.
