Listening & Learning — A Devotional

2 Timothy 2:7

CONSIDER… UNDERSTAND

CONSIDER… UNDERSTAND. 2nd Timothy 2:7 The day will come when we see the effects of not quitting work despite suffering and rejection. The goal of glorifying God, winning people to Christ, and seeing spiritual growth and maturity in God’s people will be evident if we “faint not, or be weary in well-doing.”

If we take the time to meditate and consider everyone involved in our lives and service to the Lord, we gain spiritual insight from God. Being open and receptive to the truth in God’s word influences us and helps us endure the difficulties and exhaustion that come with fruitful labor. Then, we learn how to apply the timeless truths of the Bible to our lives and share them with others. Reading, meditating, and thoughtfully contemplating these things gives us understanding that can bless us. Finally, we can pass on to others what we have learned and by doing so, honor and glorify our Lord Jesus Christ.

Sometimes, we need to pause and reflect on all we've learned to gain the necessary insight to pass on divine truth. We must think about it long enough to understand its meaning and the lesson's purpose. Knowing the truth and why it matters requires our meditation so that God can speak to us through His word and others can speak through us. When we are open and receptive to Him, our understanding guides us to reach those we are currently working with. These illustrations Paul used help deepen our understanding, especially if we've been a soldier, athlete, or farmer. To truly grasp the truth, we need to pass it on in a way that others can understand, so they can pass it on and teach others.
