2 Timothy 2:9

FREEDOM

FREEDOM. 2nd Timothy 2:9. “The Word of God is not bound.” Do you ever feel boxed in? Do you ever think there’s nowhere else to go, no one else to turn to, or nothing else you can do? All of us have been in that situation and probably will be again. So, what can we do? Paul was in trouble. He was jailed for the sake of the Gospel. He was seen as an evil-doer. He could have used his situation to feel sorry for himself or asked someone to change his circumstances. He learned from experience that one thing remains constant among all the challenges and uncertainties of a day’s events: it can produce results in every situation – “the Word of God is not bound.”

Prison walls do not bind it. When an innocent person suffers and seeks justice, “the Word of God is not bound.” When physical pain is a constant companion with no relief, the Word of God is not bound. When the family life you cherish is falling apart and you can't do anything to stop it, remember, “the Word of God is not bound.” If one steady constant remains when everything else is at risk, hold on to this truth: “the Word of God is not bound.”

Our gracious Father has given us freedom and liberty in Christ Jesus, our Lord. The aroma of freedom from guilt and the consequences of sin fills the air whenever the Gospel is preached. One can experience the fullness of the words “free indeed” even now. We thank God for the liberty of being part of a kingdom of priests who can offer spiritual sacrifices without the bondages of human-made rules. We are grateful for the freedom that comes with the blessed restrictions of being in God’s family.

There is room for all of the Word of God in the heart, yet the world cannot contain the books that could be written about the blessed work of our Lord Jesus Christ when He was on earth. The promise of an “unbound Word” gives us the courage to keep reading it, preaching it, learning from it, applying it, and promoting it whenever possible.

The word of God explains itself, which is what a loyal servant does when he preaches the Gospel and teaches God's word to believers. We must clarify that the suffering of our Lord Jesus Christ was not due to any law-breaking but because of the life-changing power of the Gospel of God's grace. People may place the servant-messenger in bonds or chains, but the "word of God is not bound" and will continue to fulfill its purpose. When one person's work is finished, others are raised up by God to continue preaching the word of God. There is a cost to being faithful to God's word and salvation through Christ Jesus alone.
