Acts 1

1. Action needed, v. 1 a. Jesus, the example, "...do and teach..." He was a doer/teacher, and the men of action in Acts had caught that same attitude. b. Balance: 1 Peter 3:15, "The reason that lieth within..." 2 Tim. 4:2, "Preach the Word, be instant (prepared)..." c. False notions: friendship evangelism. Be friendly and wait for someone to come along.

2. The worth of an individual. v. 1-4 a. One man had two complete books written to him. b. Luke had the right perspective on the worth of an individual. c. If we only look for a crowd, we make a mistake. d. Anyone saved? Is any Christian determined to pray more? Anyone with a greater desire for the Word of God? Anyone with a burden for his neighbor?

3. Purity of life. v. 9-11 a. Aware of the soon return of the Lord. b. The reality of Christ's return is a motivating factor to Gospel work. c. 1 Jn. 3:2-3.

4. Witnessing Strategy. v. 8, 12 a. Jerusalem b. Judea GOALS c. Samaria LIVING: PRIORITIES d. Uttermost parts of the earth. STRATEGY PLANNING

5. Holy Spirit's Power. v. 8 a. We are helpless without Him. b. Any grieving or quenching must be dealt with. c. A step of faith provides the means for Him to use.

6. An Urgent Task. v.8. a. Some things require immediate attention. b. A sense of urgency is needed. c. No time to lose.

7. Seeking God's Will. v.24 a. Prayer b. Seeking God's will through the Word. c. Acted on what the Lord showed.

8. Tending God's Flock. v. 26. Essential to leading. a. Love. b. Patience. c. Ability to inspire and encourage those whom one leads. d. Cold, mechanical, demanding leaders will meet with resistance. e. Meekness and lowliness will open up others to have confidence in you.

DISCIPLES * Holy men and women of God. * Involved in the urgent task of taking the Gospel to others under the power of the Holy Spirit. * Following the leaders, the Lord Himself commissioned.
