ACTS 22 A. Four Reasons Why People Listen.

1. The power of God.

2. The way Paul spoke.

a. In their own language. b. The message doesn't change but the tone does. c. Adapt to the situation. d. People sense love and concern.

3. People recognize the ring of truth.

a. There is something about one who tells the truth that commands attention. b. Being confronted with Christ (His presence and love) commands attention.

4. A farewell speech commands attention.

a. Urgency. b. Finality. c. Conviction--belief that it works.

B. Five Principles A Speaker Must Use

1. Identify with the audience.

a. Do not stand aloof. b. Communicate your association with them.

2. Be conciliatory.

a. Commend what is commendable. b. Calm an audience by being calm yourself.

3. Use terms that will communicate effectively.

a. Do not unnecessarily provoke your hearers. b. Avoid phrases the audience doesn't know. c. In his testimony, Paul highlighted three things:

1) He saw a light and heard a voice. Spoke within a framework they could accept.

2) He was simply acting in obedience to God; it wasn't his choice; God had spoken.

3) God's command was given to him through the revelation of Christ.

4. Make sure people actually hear and understand your words.

5. Major on facts that keep the audience with you.

REVIEW:

1. Rely on God.

2. Relate to the audience.

3. Show compassion toward them.

4. Share the truth about the life, death, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.
