RECONCILED. Colossians 1:21-29 Salvation is a free gift, but it is not a cheap one. It costs us nothing, but it cost God dearly – it cost Jesus His life. By physically dying on the cross, Jesus sacrificed Himself and paid the debt we had accumulated because of our sins. Because Jesus died as our substitute, God and sinful humans can be reconciled. When Jesus cried out to God, “My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?” He was separated from a just and holy God so that we do not have to be separated from God forever in hell and the lake of fire.
This is the core message of atonement—becoming one with God. The incredible, astonishing, and unexplainable truth is that He did this for us even when we were His enemies because of our sinful actions and ways. Why would God allow this, and why was Jesus willing to do it? “God demonstrated His love to us in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
The foundation for reconciling sinners to God has been set. It was achieved through the blood of Christ. He sacrificed His life for us on the cross when He offered Himself flawless and pure to God on our behalf. Today, that message is shared with the world through the Gospel. Peace has been established between God and humanity through Jesus Christ. The death of the perfect Savior has made this possible on a legal, just, and moral level. Sin has not been ignored in any way; it has been addressed and paid for in full by "the blood of His cross." That is why those who have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior only "glory in the cross." It signifies that the hostility between the redeemed sinner and God has been removed, and confidence is placed in the value of the Person and the work of the Savior.
