The Hope of the Gospel. Colossians 1:23. Persevering in faith despite obstacles, opposition, or misleading teachings shows we are reconciled to God through Christ's sacrifice for us. It is God who will keep us blameless as long as we remain in the faith and stay committed to the Gospel. Faith is a path to walk, not a free ride to heaven. We are called to be “established and firm” in “the hope of the Gospel,” trusting in our Lord Jesus Christ, who empowers us to live for Him.
Continuing in the faith rooted in Christ, we will be established in the doctrine of our faith, which is the doctrine of Christ Himself and everything He teaches us. He will keep us steady in faith as we learn of Him through His word. Love for Him, commitment to Him, and taking His yoke upon ourselves will train us as we learn from Him, who is meek and lowly in heart, and who gives rest to our souls. He sustains us by His grace and power but expects us to be stable and devoted to Him and the faith of the Gospel. Faith in the word of God is the foundation of our minds and hope because the word of God evidences itself in our hearts. Everywhere I look, I see undeniable evidence of God on which I can base and build my faith. There is clear proof that makes me confident that the One I believe in is unchangeable, allowing me to step forward firmly on holy ground with unshakeable faith. By God's grace—His unearned favor—I shall not be moved. With childlike trust and God's help, I will not remain passive, weak, or uninvolved but will be committed to Him and move forward with humble optimism. With God's Word in my hand, I intend to speak the truth—unalterable facts. Through God's Spirit, I want to be consciously guided by His limitless power.
The hope of the Gospel is not just some vague superstition; it is trustworthy. God’s truth given to people brings about real life changes now, which skeptics who look for reasons to doubt can see. For someone nearing the end of life, the hope of the Gospel offers peace and comfort. As we consider the eternal future, there is joy that cannot be expressed and is full of glory.
The message of the Gospel crosses all barriers created by people or in their minds to reach every individual willing to believe in God's evidence through creation, conscience, goodness, and His power. “In every nation, he that fears God and works righteousness is accepted by Him.” By God’s sovereign will, He enables everyone to come to know Him if they desire to. Little or much knowledge does not determine salvation by grace through faith. Eternal life is given to those who “know Thee, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.”
The Gospel blesses the entire earth, whether people realize it or not. The Righteous God is pleased with what the Lord Jesus has done for us. Sin's grip on humanity and creation is broken by the power of darkness, and a Holy God will cleanse for Himself a special people who are eager to do good works. He is not finished with mankind and nations. The All-Knowing God will be honored, and from every part of His creation and in every person, the Supreme God will be glorified.
