No Additions Needed. Colossians 2:10. We are not missing anything that God’s salvation has provided because He does not give us only part of His grace's blessings. A new believer in Christ is born again, receives a new nature, is a new creation in Christ, has eternal life, and receives all of the many things God grants us when He saves us. All we need for both time and eternity is ours in Christ. Our need is to grow in Christ, which is our responsibility. We grow as we dedicate ourselves to adding to our faith virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. When these qualities are all active in our individual and church lives, we will be fruitful and fulfilled.
Salvation is a finished work; saying, "Jesus and..." would be wrong—implying something else is needed. Paying the price of redemption by any means is beyond man's ability. God is supreme in every way, not just in creational power. Every government and every force are far lower in comparison to God. Yet He, who is so preeminent that He is the head of all things, has made anything we could do unnecessary, for we are complete in Him. We need no "out-of-the-body" experiences; we need no angels or men to make us more fit to be in the presence of God; we are complete in Him.
Any additional work we attempt, any sacrifices we make, would only diminish the worth of what Christ has accomplished; we are complete in Him. Any pain we endure, all the money we earn in a lifetime, even the hymns we sing, would only add sin-stained marks to His work, for we are complete in Him. The things we do are motivated by appreciation, gratitude, and worship for Him who has brought us to Himself and made us complete in Him.
When people comment, "I go to church regularly, and I say my prayers," they need to read and heed the scriptures of truth. "Listen to what the Word of God says, lest you make a mistake and be lost." "For by grace are ye saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast."
Our completeness in Christ makes us suitable for God's presence; it is because of His fullness that we receive the grace we need. He freely gives His grace for the grace we require, based on Him, whom we believe in. His work is finished, and we are complete in Him; with that, God is satisfied. His righteousness imputed to us is acceptable; it was for us that Jesus suffered and died.
Adding anything to such a perfect work would be disrespectful to God, to say the least. To suggest that I could add something to Christ's work would only cause us sorrow. All human achievements, when compared, are insignificant in the presence of God's grace. The realization that we are complete in Him is a powerful motivator to live by faith.
