Comforted. Colossians 2:2. Every mature believer cares that those new to the family of God are encouraged in their hearts. That is where God's truths become real to us, and our convictions are built. We “believe with all our hearts.” This kind of faith connects us with other Christians like threads in a garment. Christian love causes us to move in fellowship and harmony with others because we have been united in our understanding of God's revealed truth. Spiritual insight and good judgment become a part of our lives and personalities.
This contrasts with what the Gnostic teachers considered superior knowledge, which they claimed to possess. With charismatic speech and personality, those who challenge the simplicity of the Gospel seek to weaken the spiritual discernment that the Holy Spirit gives to those who read and apply the word of God to themselves. Unity in love leads to understanding and confidence in the truth as God reveals things previously hidden from us. The full richness of convictions and insight yields a comprehensive understanding of what it means to be in Christ and part of all God’s people.
Uncertainty and uneasiness often go together, like a pair of twins turning their heads at the same time. However, this is not necessarily true when someone says both are sins. If we look in the right place, we can find an answer to the problem. Instead of focusing on men's unusual ideas, we must turn to the Word of God to find the solution.
God has revealed that salvation comes by grace, not by anything we earn or deserve because of our heritage or other reasons. Forgiveness of sins is a work of God. We don't make it happen or share it by confessing our sins. When we confess our sins, we openly tell God that we understand our sinful state and personal guilt. Then, we will repent of our sins and turn to God in faith. Assurance and understanding of God's salvation come when we recognize it is all by His redeeming grace.
When we avoid comparing our experiences with others, our hearts find comfort and we enjoy fellowship with God. God deals with us personally, just as He does with all our sisters and brothers. The unifying power of the family of God isn't some mysterious experience to replicate as a model for genuine faith in Christ. The Spirit of God Himself, through our Lord Jesus Christ, imparts the spirit of the family when we become children of God through faith in Jesus.
Love for each other tends to unite believers and fosters genuine encouragement. Encouragement to embrace the truth leads to understanding and knowledge. This insight into all the "riches" we have in Christ provides full assurance and awareness of God's work in the church. He is uniting the church, made up of all believers, so they understand who they are and what they possess. The heretics were spreading messages they claimed were hidden before they arrived. Paul's writing assured the believers of the "full knowledge" (acknowledgment) of the treasures of wisdom and knowledge that were previously hidden. These are not things learned from religious charlatans but are truths already revealed to us.
