New clothes… New shoes. Deuteronomy 29:5. “And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes have not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot.” I’ve had these clothes for forty years, and they’re still in great shape. There has been no unraveling or wearing out, and look, these aren’t brand-new shoes. But for some secret reason only God knows, He has made sure that everything we wear—whether shoes or these old-looking clothes—doesn't require us to find another pair or anything new while we're on this wilderness journey.
These clothes God gave me many years ago are garments of righteousness He made for me to wear on my journey to my new heavenly home. The hands that provided for my daily food and gave me this garment are the same ones that were nailed to the cross so I might go through this life with feet shod with the Gospel of peace. He has entrusted the Gospel to me so that others on life’s journey can also experience the blessings of God’s redeeming grace.
Throughout this time, He has been meeting all my needs. Daily food comes from His generous supply. The clothes of His righteousness that He has provided do not wear out, nor do the shoes on my feet that protect me from the world's effects. I eat spiritual food every day, and the water of life supply never runs dry. Therefore, I don’t need to worry about simple matters; my Lord takes perfect care of them. I have trusted Him with these for many years, and He has shown me that when big problems arise, I don’t have to fret; I simply leave everything to Him.
