Exodus 26:1

MAKE THE TABERNACLE

MAKE THE TABERNACLE. EXODUS 26:1 The Tabernacle is referred to in some parts of scripture simply as the tent itself. In other passages, it seems that everything surrounding the tent— including the fence, altar, laver, and enclosed area—was considered part of “the Tabernacle.” There were times when the entire congregation of Israelites was summoned to appear before the Tabernacle. Detailed descriptions were provided, highlighting how the Tabernacle was constructed and the reasons for its design.

We learn much about God's glory as we examine each part of the entire structure and furniture. Blueprints are simply marks on paper that present facts. Verbal descriptions encourage us to think and meditate on what has been said before we act. By doing so, we gain a deeper understanding of the Lord our God and are inspired to worship Him, give thanks, and act in faith based on what He says in His word.

The descriptions God gave to Moses reflect the salvation of sinners and their being brought into a covenant relationship with Him by His grace, along with personal fellowship with Him. There is a clear teaching that relates to Christ and the church. God dwelled among His people, and our Lord Jesus Christ now dwells in the midst of those gathered to Him and in His name. Today, the Lord’s people are a kingdom of priests.

John 1:14 tells us that He made His dwelling among people. When He died, the veil was torn in two, allowing us to enter the Most Holy. That is where God dwells, so now we can come directly to Him through the sacrifice Christ made on the cross. A new and living way is now open to God's holy presence. We are called to be holy as He is holy, and when we approach God, we do so with reverence and godly fear.

Teaching is common in the Tabernacle, where we learn about God's character and principles related to salvation, sanctification, remembrance, worship, and church practices. God communicated these patterns to Moses and continues to apply them to us today. These lessons were written for our instruction and warning. There is no room for adding to what God has spoken. We must follow the pattern He provided without altering His divine instructions.
