Introduction

THEY WILL NOT BELIEVE ME

THEY WILL NOT BELIEVE ME. Why should or would people believe that a man has been called to leadership? What is there to prove to people that God is behind his authority to bind or set free? When times come in our lives when God does extraordinary things for us or through us, that should encourage us to go farther by faith and accept the responsibility He gives us. To lead a soul to Christ is our privilege, and to see the Spirit of God reveal Christ to that person as their own Savior through His word is one of the greatest means of encouragement to keep serving the Lord and to press ahead in what He calls us to do. He uses many ways to encourage us to live and work by faith.

Honestly, it isn’t something a leader needs to worry too much about. If someone is sure that God has spoken to them – if they are certain the Holy Spirit has placed that concern in their heart for God’s people and His work that they can’t deny – they don’t require any additional assurance. When a man is engaged in work for the Lord, the work itself is all that should matter. His work will speak for itself. Leave the recognition of leadership to others to confirm.

God can confirm that affirmation through the Holy Spirit and place it in the hearts of His people. Others will observe and recognize when someone can be trusted and is being used by God as a spiritual guide. There may be times and places, like Titus on Crete, when a leader in his own right identifies another leader by his word based on recognition of a work he has accomplished.

Denying God the right to use the gifts He has given us is not an act of humility. God made us who we are and in the way we are. Avoiding use of what He provided by making excuses for our hesitations is essentially criticizing God. He gives us abilities or disabilities as He wills. If we focus on our weaknesses as reasons not to use our strengths, we are denying the Lord who bought us.

God is patient, though likely irritated with us when we drag our feet or act like reluctant children who do not want to obey. How gracious He was to let Aaron serve as the spokesperson for Moses. Moses remained God’s mouthpiece, but Aaron was the one who did the public speaking for him. Moses was the prophet overseeing the priest; both were used by God for His people.

Moses knew what had to be done. God had chosen him to do it. That’s all a leader needs to be confident in. How God confirms this to you and others is really His decision, because we are His servants. He is our Master and Lord, and we serve under His guidance.
