John 2:12

He went down

He went down. John 2:12. Not alone now—the miracle at Cana is past. Jesus, His mother, His brothers, and the disciples who followed Him now made their way to the city of Capernaum, their steps purposeful. Wherever He dwells, it is a blessed place. They didn’t stay long there, for more than one reason. He did wonderful work there, especially in Capernaum. Still, despite the many benefits He could provide, they hesitated in an unrepentant state, even though they knew His grace firsthand.

Far too often, I have encountered what seems to be a place of blessing if only those around me could realize that Jesus was passing by. He can fulfill the deep, unspoken needs of those who might have experienced the joys of faith but instead oppose and ignore His grace. May I, in every way and opportunity, find a way during that brief time to say what I believe so that, whether saint or sinner, my fellow man will grasp the passing, gracious Savior while they can.

And I— as I think about His family and friends—must be consistent in offering my helping hands to others for good purposes, to meet needs, and to testify to the worthiness of the Lord Jesus, upon whom I and they can fully rely.

People in places where the Lord visits in grace often do not realize the blessings they could receive until it is too late. When Jesus entered Capernaum, that community experienced a divine visitation. Although times of visitation still occur today, many people treat the special attention of God as something normal or unimportant. During these times, people talk about spiritual matters, Christians pray with more intensity than usual, and they turn to the scriptures more frequently. The proper response to such moments is to declare our faith, stay focused on divine things, and care for others' needs while seeking God's glory.
