LEADERSHIP. Joshua 1:17. “According as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee: only the Lord thy God be with thee, as He was with Moses.” When changes occur, people must decide if they are appropriate to the need, based on scripture, necessary now, and something I can follow because they show evidence of coming from God. A change in leadership isn't something to hide from or oppose. I need to commit to doing what the new leader requests. Failing to do so could negatively impact others for personal reasons. They may wonder if I will cause a new conflict due to different personalities or opinions. Whatever I do, I must remember that my sisters and brothers will decide whether to act on what God said before the changes or on the new guidance based on divine principles taught in God's word.
When God guides us through His Spirit of truth and holy word, there will be a unity that is good to see. The results will be positive because God is leading the group as His blessings unfold, meeting the needs of the saints. Those from the east side of the Jordan chose to follow Joshua as they conquered the land on the west side of the river. They had everything to gain and nothing to lose when they committed themselves to Joshua’s leadership.
I am not finished living, even though most of my life has already been lived. If the Lord does not return in my lifetime, by God’s grace, I want to follow my Lord and the brothers in leadership of the assembly to whom I am accountable daily. Those men the Holy Spirit raises up to lead His people and feed the flock of God will, by His grace, earn and maintain my loyalty.
