Judges 5:3

Sing Praises

Sing Praises. Judges 5:3. “Hear, O ye kings; give ear. O ye princes: I, even I, will sing unto the Lord; I will sing praise to the Lord God of Israel.” The voices rise together, reaching higher notes. Then, softer tones are sung, moving slower and lower as the rhythm and tone reflect the attitude of those joining in song. Everyone's focus sharpens when all are thinking and expressing the same thoughts aloud. Every singer singing the same words at the same time feels unified with others and participates in bringing the whole congregation together as they praise the Lord our God.

Body language is powerful and speaks silently as words flow. Heads are held higher, tilted back, and eyes may close or focus on a point above all distractions. Hands open and close, fingers move, feet tap to the sound and words coming from many lips. Rhythmic as the sound rises and falls, slows and speeds, everyone's attention is directed outward and upward—praising with song the Lord God.

The battle is recounted, including the enemies in the story. Remarkable ways that God worked are expressed in the words. Unusual events that were acted upon and completed, ways the righteous acts of God changed lives; the difficulties, the subtleties, and the outcomes are all included in the words that unite us and glorify God. Recounting the historical event to hearers, viewers, and participants inspires praise to the Lord our God. Failures and dangers, hopes and hurts resonate in singing words that tell of God's faithfulness. Those involved and those who are afraid find their places in verses of the song. Enthusiasm and commitment, enemies and fears, testifying and challenging remind us of God's goodness. Spiritual celebrations release emotions and give an outlet for the hearts of those engaged in spiritual warfare, resulting in praise to the Lord our God.
