Be holy. Leviticus 11:44. You once lived in Egypt, but you are no longer there. The food you ate in that land wasn't right for you and the life you share with God. He is Lord; obey His command. From food to your clothing, from family to friends, there are rules to guide your life. The Lord is God, and I must bow to Him when I choose to live a holy life. There are things I won’t do and places I won’t go; there are ways God intends me to live, and I want to follow that path. The world of Egypt has passed. To its ways, I say, “No.” To be holy, I know I must yield my will to God and dedicate myself to Him as His servant. I can’t allow my words and actions to defile me if I want to live this life according to God's plan. To be holy means to separate from sin, which most people accept, but whose actions will leave me condemned.
The Lord brought us out of “Egyptian bondage,” so why should I go back to those things God delivered me from? To be holy for God, I must live for Him here, where I make my home, even if I seem strange to others around me. That is why He saved us: so that from God’s people, there will be a clear testimony of God’s grace. The nations around us all need to know how they can believe and be safely brought to heaven.
Compromising the truth, even with good motives, will not ultimately lead people to God. God wants us to be like Him in righteousness and holiness. We must value the truth, even if it costs us and makes us uncomfortable in this sinful society. When we live holy lives through our conduct and speak the truth as we should, we can bless others and serve as a testimony to God’s saving grace.
