The Value of Money. Luke 16:10-13 Money should be used to create works that last. These brief statements about money and its usage provide insight into what true riches are. Our integrity is tested in financial matters because misusing money is often dishonest. When we are honest about the small things in life that tempt us to undervalue them, we are likely to do the same with the larger amounts entrusted to us. Small details hold the same value as large ones; the only difference is their size or quantity.
Heavenly values are far more critical than earthly ones. Our commitment to integrity will not falter when we recognize that everything has value—whether small or large—in its proper place and for its intended use. In a spiritual sense, money is insignificant. What truly holds value are the boundless riches of God’s grace and all that it provides, both now and forever. Our choices—money or God—determine whom we serve. We cannot serve both God and money. The ways I can discern my allegiance are not overly complicated. What preoccupies my thoughts the most? What causes me the greatest worry? Do I sacrifice making money to serve God and follow His commands, or do I set aside what I know is for God to chase a profit that I might miss if I don’t seize the opportunity now? Do I spend more time considering how to make money than thinking about how I can better serve God and His people? Is it difficult for me to part with money or give it away? Do I borrow money to invest or to acquire things when it’s unnecessary for me to be in debt?
Money deceives people because it promises much but delivers little of what truly matters. While it may provide temporary power, fortunes can be lost quickly for various reasons. Money cannot ensure health or happiness. It can’t guarantee a long life, nor can it provide eternal life. When a person serves God, they find peace in their soul, eternal security, and a sense of calmness about the future, along with a meaningful purpose in daily life, inner happiness, and fellowship with others who share their faith in Christ. There is a joy that believers share, which opens doors to tell the lost about what they can receive when they trust in the Lord Jesus Christ.
