The Levites’ role. Numbers 1:47-54 The Levites understood their responsibilities as the nation moved forward. They were appointed by their families to set up the Tabernacle and to move it with order and respect whenever the cloud and fire indicated. To take down and assemble the Tabernacle, the Levites had to be prepared, and everyone knew their specific work and service. The "charge of the Tabernacle of testimony" was no small task. Today, the responsibility of caring for the house of God is very important and is not something for us to decide how to do.
Numbers is a book that describes the faithfulness of God and His love and grace toward man despite disobedience and unbelief. The first chapter establishes God's demand for orderly service in preparation for the battles to come. Like the Levites, those who serve the Lord in spiritual ways in various manners that align with the commission our Lord gave just before He ascended to heaven, we each have a unique role to fulfill.
We are not simply on a casual walk through a good world. The system that despised our Lord Jesus Christ when He was here also hates those who follow Him. "All that live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution." God's work should be done decently and in order, reflecting His character and what He wants ours to be like.
