Faith of the Gospel. Philippians 1:27. “Only let your conversation be as becometh the gospel of Christ: that whether I come and see you, or else be absent, I may hear of your affairs, that ye stand fast in one spirit, with one mind, striving together for the faith of the gospel;” It is important for all Christians to look ahead to the challenge of Gospel work in our time. We cannot change what happened in the past failures. A clear vision is necessary to accomplish the work before us. Many say there’s no reason to keep preaching the Gospel. People aren’t listening. Is that the real problem, or are we just not talking? Maybe we’re not speaking about what matters to us in the right way and in the right places. People around us aren’t impressed if what I say doesn’t match what I do.
Whatever the situation, we cannot ignore the need that lost souls have or blame our age for the problem of indifference toward the God we love. The early church did not have Bibles to read and preach from; they would have spoken from personal experience and what they learned from those who did have the scriptures or who had passed on firsthand knowledge. As generations passed, we finally received the Word of God in our own language. Most people today never read it or even have the desire to do so. They are still watching believers to understand what real Christianity looks like.
The relationship between people is not unique to God's people. There is a bond or lack of one between employers and employees, between nations, and between businesses. Still, the relationships of believers carry eternal consequences. Our Lord Jesus Christ and His Gospel bind believers together as a church. How those in the church live is a matter of the church itself. We do not act on our own without accountability to others. The call to unity and harmony in words and actions keeps us working together toward the same goal—the faith of the Gospel.
An assembly of believers who meet in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ is not like a walled fortress built to keep people out. We have been given a command to “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel.” As we unite in this mission, we become an offensive weapon in spiritual warfare against the powers of darkness. When we are united in this cause, our Lord assured us that “The gates of hell shall not prevail against us.”
