Philippians 2:20

Two of a Kind

Two of a Kind. Philippians 2:20. “For I have no man likeminded, who will naturally care for your state.” How can two very different men share the same outlook? One is old, and the other is young. A generation divides them. One is already successful in life, while the other is nearly finished. Paul is in prison, yet he sends Timothy on a spiritual mission to handle a sensitive issue in an assembly. Both exemplify humility as the Spirit of God intended. Loving the Lord’s people doesn’t depend on a person’s age. Caring for others doesn’t necessarily require the wisdom of many years but rather the wisdom from God. A person’s value is connected to the reality of our love. Two people can find great joy in each other's actions when they share love for God, His people, His Gospel, and one another.

One person can rest peacefully even when they cannot do anything about their situation, while the other rushes to the work they want to do themselves. They understand that their fellow worker is not someone to avoid the work God has assigned them. Their duty to do the work they once performed will continue through the effort and love of their fellow worker.

It's rare in our lifetime to find a true kindred spirit. No one is exactly like another, but needs must be met, and a kindred spirit gladly fills those needs and feels thankful for the privilege of serving the Lord. Being truly two-of-a-kind means we are the same at our core and in our spirits. We might be as different as chalk and cheese on the outside, but from our hearts and minds, we see what is righteous and agree on what is sin in the same way. I am still waiting, as I grow older, for someone who thinks the same. There are some faithful young men I could easily name, who share the same interests and are far better than I am in the work they've been called to, so I will wait and see.
