LIVE IN THE PRESENT. Philippians 3:12-21 In the first verses of this chapter, Paul compares himself to an accountant, summing up his life as a believer with the words, "I count." Then, in verses 12 through 16, he speaks as an athlete in a race and says, "I press"—as someone running toward the goal. In the last verses, he likens himself to a stranger living away from home in a colony of people searching for the Savior—"I look." In each of these descriptions of the lives of God's people, we can see who we are and learn what matters most in our present life. Our goal needs to be clear and straightforward before us. It challenges us to be like Paul. He knew God had captured him to be a model believer so that through him, God could show us what He can do with a human life fully devoted to Him.
