Power Under His Control. Philippians 3:21. “Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.” Our bodies are now weak and vulnerable to sin, disease, and death. But this is not forever. God will transform our bodies to be like the body of our Lord Jesus Christ when He rose from the dead. The One who has “all power in heaven and in earth” over “all things" will change our bodies when He comes. These bodies will be free of any sinful parts, making them suitable for heaven. His power is universal and complete—there is no greater power.
“Lowly bodies” will become immortal when they are transformed or raised at His Coming. He is the “first-fruits” of resurrection and has a body of glory, even though He is the God/Man since His incarnation. The eternal life we were given when we trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ will be present in our bodies then, just as it is in our souls and spirits now. The new body will suit the glorified life we will have for all eternity.
Sadly, and sometimes painfully, our bodies seem to let us down because of sin’s terrible curse. As the body ages and matures, it gradually worsens: becoming weaker, more prone to pain and disease, and less able to care for itself. But this body of humiliation will be transformed by the power of Christ. At His coming, mine and His will be the same in the sense of eternal life. Weakness and decay will end and be replaced by strength, ability, and lasting health. The scars and marks caused by sin will no longer mar me. The food we eat and drinks we enjoy won’t be needed for survival but will be a way to fellowship with others, and there won’t be a need for fasting days when praying for revival.
The limitless power of our Lord is under His control, and He uses it as He chooses—whether to send an earthquake or to save a soul. There are certainly good reasons for the Lord to use His power, although I am not aware of all of them. However, I know that when the Lord Jesus applies that power, it is out of care. Creating something new after it has been dying for nearly a century requires power beyond human understanding and ability. Wrinkled, worn skin will take on a heavenly appearance that no longer reveals “the wages of sin.” The aging process that causes bodies of old people to bend will no longer be visible.
The heart and unseen organs that are necessary to keep me alive now will no longer be essential for my survival. The deterioration of the brain and loss of memory will become a thing of the past when we see Jesus in His glorious body. What a marvel it will be when our bodies are made “like unto His body of glory.” I can’t fully grasp all that this power involves, but I can catch a glimpse of it when a boat is under sail or when lightning flashes and thunder roars. Even the silence during the growth of life in people, plants, and creatures—all of it reveals His power.
With anticipation, I look forward to the day when that change occurs. It will happen instantly—without delay—using the same power of God I first recognized the night He saved my soul and brought life to my spirit. Once again, my body will be transformed eternally.
