Listening & Learning — A Devotional

Titus 1:16

FALSE CLAIMS

FALSE CLAIMS. Titus 1:16 How do we know what people believe about God? Many claim to be Christians, but their words should match their actions. Our deeds show how sincere our faith is. What we practice should never contradict what we say. I’ve heard the saying, “What you do speaks so loudly that I can’t hear a word you say!”

It would be wrong of me to judge people just because they don’t share the same beliefs I have or do what I think they should. But, the Spirit of God in a person who claims Christ helps those who know the Father who sent the Son to do what He wants for His glory.

Those who deny Him are detestable, disobedient people who are disqualified from representing God and His people to a watching world because they dishonor the Lord Jesus Christ. They deceive and mislead those who listen to false teaching with wrong motives. We cannot ignore what is wrong and misleading. The Lord’s people must be warned about them, and their sin needs to be exposed. Love doesn’t ignore or allow sin to go unchallenged; those in danger should be warned.

By failing both the tests of character and conduct, these false teachers, who taught incorrect doctrine, are condemned. They claimed to know God and everything about Him, but their actions contradicted the teachings they expressed with their words. These individuals are revolting before both God and humanity. They refuse to submit to God and His Word, even going so far as to oppose it in pursuit of their own selfish agenda. Even today, some do not meet the requirements of biblical Christianity, and the consequences of that reprobate attitude towards "every good work" have caused disorder among the people of God.
