BE SUBJECT. Titus 3:1 However, we still live in the same old world, under the same old systems of government, and inhabit the same old body with the same needs to survive. Therefore, it is necessary that I submit to the laws of the place where I live, as long as they do not conflict with my higher responsibility to the kingdom of God, of which I am now a citizen.
So, whether a Christian believes they should have as little as possible to do with government, thinks that the governments on earth are only concerned with physical life, not spiritual life, or believes that the laws of the land and the laws of God should work together for the good of society, we must act responsibly according to the laws of the place where we live. Our behavior and attitude toward government and society are clearly stated. "The powers that be are ordained of God."
Not only are we obligated to obey the laws because we are not above the law and are subject to authority, but we should also conduct our daily lives as good citizens - not as rebels or anarchists. We need to “be ready for every good work.” That means when there are needs in our community that we can meet and that benefit the well-being of others, we should be prepared and willing to respond and do what we can to help.
Characteristics from past lives of rebelling against the laws and authority of the land are not suitable for someone who is a stranger and a pilgrim passing through this world on their way to our heavenly home. The work we do daily should not be contrary to righteousness or the well-being of the community. Being a bartender, selling pornography, or selling products that harm the body and soul of any person are not jobs that honor the Lord Jesus Christ. Anything that would be harmful to good health, a strong family life, and good citizenship must be avoided by a child of God.
