OUR PEOPLE. Titus 3:14 Our 'ours' (our people) and "maintaining good works" relate to instructions given to the Cretan believers and continue to be relevant from that day to today. There are urgent needs that require our help, both locally and in many other places. Practical Christianity must be practiced, and we should seek opportunities to be productive and meaningful in advancing the Lord's work and blessing others through good works. A sense of fellowship is conveyed even through the written words of a letter, which means a lot to those who read them. It is possible to share affection and grace through words. Another important result of meeting urgent needs that we are aware of is that when we earn money and share it with those who need financial help, we prevent ourselves from living a selfish, wasted, unproductive, and meaningless life. It also relieves others from the misery of their circumstances and frees us from the despair of a pointless existence without lasting purpose. Christians with vision, vitality, and initiative are in the spiritual state to live a full and abundant life. I might feel that what I do and where I go is nobody else's business. But then I have to stop and think, "Don't others have a right to know what I'm doing, where I'm going, and what my general plans are?" The things I do and where I work might affect the efforts and spiritual growth of other brothers and sisters. It is not out of place for me to consider others and the work they are involved in for the Lord. Expecting their fellowship while not telling them what I have been doing and what I have ahead of me is unfair; none of them is a mind reader.
As best as I can, I owe it to those working in another part of the harvest field to let them know what I am doing, and I yield to God's wise guidance. Not everyone does the same work as others; God has given us different gifts suited for the work He has for us. It is my responsibility to fit well into the work so I do not misuse my liberty and privilege to serve the Lord. I believe the Spirit of God guides us and will not lead us into conflicting situations. When we are under His control, we can all fulfill our responsibilities and work together in harmony with others.
If someone asks me to go with him or to wherever he sends me, and the timing seems right, I respect his authority, and if at all possible, I will respond to his call. I should neither linger nor neglect an open door through which I should go to fulfill the work given. I will do one thing, and my brothers in the Lord will do other things, and we will remain in fellowship as we labor together in the field of the Lord.
