1st John 2:1. “My little children, things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:” WE HAVE AN ADVOCATE. Christ’s interest in us:
- Jn.15:16. He has chosen us – therefore His reputation is involved.
- Rev.1:5. He has loved us and washed us – therefore His crucifixion is involved.
- Col.1:27. He is in (among) us – therefore his life is involved.
- 2Cor.5:21. He has imputed His righteousness to us – therefore His future is involved.
Christ’s defense of us:
- Lu.22:31-34. He prays for us – so He represents us to the Father.
- Heb.13:6. He protects us – so He defends us to men.
- Ps.23:1. He provides for us – so He assures us to ourselves.
- 2Tim.4:18. He preserves us – so He keeps us from every evil work arrayed against us.
Christ’s blessings to us:
- Jn.14:16. Another Comforter – a new Person in us.
- Jn.13:34-35. A new commandment – a new Authority for us.
- 2Cor.5:17. A new creation – a new nature from us.
Christ’s commission to us:
- Mat.28:16-20. Our mission – evangelize, because He has sent us.
- Acts 1:8. Our means – the Holy Spirit, because He is in us.
- Rom.1:16. Our might – the Gospel, because it empowers us.
- 2Cor.5:14-15. Our motivation – love, because the love of Christ constrains us.
“At this throne of grace, I come with all confidence, Father God, in spite of failures. I am thankful that the scriptures give assurance of One who is continually before Thy holy throne bearing my name upon Himself and making my cause, His. By virtue of His advocacy, I again make an appeal for the lost of this place; that by Thy power and the working of the Spirit of God in all of us the Lord’s people, please save precious souls in this place. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.”
