1st Peter 2:19. “For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.” SUFFERING WRONGFULLY. “It is not fair,” I find myself prone to say – When what I wanted or planned didn’t come my way. I think for some reason it should have happened to others, But finally, I stop complaining and begin to think it over – Reminding myself, as grace steps in to humble me – Christ suffered wrongfully when He died on Calvary. But looking beyond the wrong, He saw the blessing – Not only for men like me, but Divine Holiness pleasing In a legal sense, all charges laid upon the lost, And suffering wrongfully, He paid the total cost – So that redemption in its greatest sense Could for the sins of others make full recompense, And bring many sons to glory through that which was unfair, When He suffered wrongfully – He my sins did bear. Now in freedom from sin’s penalty and guilt Are blessings brought to me because His blood was spilt. So now in a much lesser way, there are times I suffer – It may be wrongfully, but my first reaction I will cover – Looking farther ahead in faith knowing that my Lord Can bring from wrongful suffering some blessed reward That I can pass on to Him as a token of appreciation And gratitude I have because He paid for my salvation. When I tell to others stories or incidents of God’s grace, Wrongful suffering then seems trivial – completely out of place, To complain of a little discomfort that came to me – When I view all the resulting blessings for eternity.
“I thank Thee, O God, for allowing me to experience a little unfairness that I might appreciate more Thy goodness. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.”
