GENESIS 14:18. “And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine; and he was the priest of the most high God.” A DIFFERENT KING. A different kind of man steps forth from the wordless shadows of history. No known father, mother or descent, this ancient king-priest steps out with full hands. Like the Son of God, the true King-Priest who came from heaven’s glory – This man came with symbolic emblems to give to him who understands. The bread and wine of fellowship he carries, and he gives to Abraham, Reminding us of the willingness of Him who came to bring us to God. He truly had no beginning when He was found in fashion as a man; And the blessing of new life began when He became our food.
The blessing of the bread we eat tells us we are each a part, Of the body of the King, under whose authority we gladly fall. One ancient seed fell into the ground and died – and by dying then did start, A multiplication process – seeds die and from them new life calls. Each one finds its beginning in another and each the source of more; Until in full-fruited glory, each ground together makes one. The bread in fullness and life-sustaining power – one Body in the Lord The Head and all the members are one – and we feed on Him, God’s Son.
A cup in the hands of this different King – One who was truly born a king; Comes symbolic evidence of a new kind of life – from the Giver of life Himself. This life, not passed from Adam to man – not contaminated by sin, Is drawn from His life, without a beginning; sinless; eternal – to God a fragrant smell. The nature of this life is perfection, for all God does is good; This king of peace with bread and wine in hand to blessings bring; Foreshadows the Coming King; from whose hand we take wine and bread; Blessing our God who provides us life through Christ, the Different King.
“Heavenly Father, every good and perfect gift that comes from above, is a blessing from Thee to be received with thanks. For new life in Christ, I give Thee thanks. For being a part of the Body of Christ, I give Thee thanks. For a life that’s hid with Christ in God, I give Thee thanks, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.”
