Genesis 2:5

BEFORE IT GREW

GENESIS 2:5. And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the Lord God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground.”

BEFORE IT GREW. What was it like when God made it first? The beauty was such, when from nothing it burst From God’s powerful words, full fruited and grown. But not into earth did He place it till man, Was in chosen garden, and ground then did till.

The plants full did flourish and continued to still.

How did it look before each thing in place; God carefully made it in each separate space? When creation was done and man there could work; From each plant and fruit for his joy he then took. The privilege of work and a meaningful life; Continues today, though the world’s full of strife.

What did man do the first thing each day? Did he eat for necessity or only for joy? And when he went out early to till all his ground; Was it for dew to go in, or for crops to abound? Every tree in his sight looked pleasant and good; Did it ever decay or just stayed there for food?

I have questions but no answers about those first days. God hasn’t told all, but I know all He says Is enough to make clear to me plans that He has. So I’ll learn what I can about following His path To the place that He wants me to work in His field; And I’ll be satisfied full, at the fruit it does yield.

I’ll leave all the questions in the white between lines. And seek by His grace, to use what strength is mine. And when the time comes, maybe Adam I’ll see; Then he’ll answer small questions that rise up in me. But mainly I’ll be glad to see Him who me took From a slumbering bed and sent me to work.

The plants I have seen are results of a seed; Planted carefully down where all that they need Is drawn by God’s power to do what men can’t. And the final result is a bountiful plant; Bringing forth fruit for God, yet I’ve had a part, ‘Cause He called me to be there right at the start.

To see the seed bud, and the plant start to grow: How it does all that’s needed, I never will know. But to see the plants growing and bringing forth fruit; Is enough to keep me praying and trying to work. When the harvest is done and He calls workers home, I’ll be more than happy to see all that God’s done.

“O God of all creation, and the Maintainer of all that is made: I am interested in the order of things that Thou hast prepared and done. Plants prepared and ready before being planted; people chosen and ready to hear the Gospel; history known and waiting to happen – all these wonders are in my mind. It is so different from the way I am. Can it be that I am that far away from Thy mind to not get what I should? If I am, please draw me closer. If I am learning and working in the way best pleasing to Thee, leave me like this. I am still able to worship at these wonders! In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.”
