John 17:13. “I come to thee.” As they refer to Himself: “I come as a representative of my people”; “I come as a pledge of my love for them”; “I come in the value of a finished work”; “I come on the grounds of justice and truth.” As they refer to the Father: the travail of His soul is satisfied; He comes to awaiting glory; He comes to the heart of His affection. As they refer to His people: I come as High Priest; I come in acceptance; I come in righteousness. “My joy…” Fulfilled, not just offered; in themselves, not another. Character of His joy [Jn.15:11]: full, complete, abiding, unchanging. Nature of His joy: He gives --- “His” peace; “His” rest; “His” strength; “His” life; “His” fullness; “His” grace – in doing the Father’s will; fulfilling the Father’s work; witnessing to the Father’s word.
