Proverbs 28:17. “A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man stay him.”
TORMENTED. He walks among his neighbors as one of them – a friend He works his daily shifts like others – a fellow worker He persuades and succeeds in winning another’s affection – a husband He is allowed the privilege of having children – a father
No one knows but him alone the darkness deep inside – fear He cannot confide to anyone the gnawing feelings – guilt Doctors cannot heal his disquiet – music does not help – joylessness The wrong seems deeply submerged but it is there, alive – by conscience
The news shared by others brings deeper anguish – from the past The loving words and deeds do not help to alleviate – the loss No one can help nor should they try to lift the burden – still buried Guilt, fear, loss – the relentless conscience all have a reason – repentance
The natural consequence of an act that has to be faced – God knows The repentance necessary for real change has to happen – face the guilt The confession of the hidden evil act has to be heard – consequences The wrongs have to be made right and whatever cost has to be paid – retribution
The price for sins committed cannot be overlooked – justice The results of evil acts can never be undone – irrecoverable The rejection that is inevitable will bring hurt and loss – unavoidable But the torment of covered sin can finally be set aside – by confession
“O God, it must be a terrible burden to have covered sins of the past that has not been faced up to and dealt with. If such a person has that and it is keeping him or her from salvation, please by Thy Spirit convict them and lead them to repentance. If the joy of the Lord is evading a believer because of something that needs to be set right, then give them the grace and wisdom to deal with that matter before it becomes too large and leads to bitterness that defiles many. Give them each the needed help I pray, in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.”
