Song of Solomon 1:3. “Because of the savor of thy good ointments thy name is poured forth. Therefore do the virgins love thee.”
THY NAME. More than words – melody – song in the heart – awareness of the beauty of the moment – Passion expressed – experienced – emotion beyond words – actions that speak volumes –
Love that opens the springs of inner joy – so sweet it can be tasted – personal – The scent of divine love cannot be mistaken – it is poured forth, and love is the result.
A name – His name – above all other names – no other name – the name of Jesus – Draws us – gives us joy – reminds us of being loved – fills the soul with gladness – The one who bears that name is unique – He is one of a kind – there is no other – We belong to Him – with Him – and the sound of His name is as ointment poured forth.
That name is as the scent of spikenard – precious in value like the finest gold. That name is like myrrh – its’ powerful scent overcomes even the scent of death. That name is like cedar – the lasting value of that name will never lose its’ power. That name is like fir (cyprus) – its strength makes even the strongest enemy flee.
The savor stays, even when the sight does not behold Him – good to the senses. The ointments are good – they are from Him – they are like Him – good in their nature. The name is exalted – extolled – excellent in all the earth – good defining the Person. The bride’s love is full, and her consorts and the upright, love Him – good in His character.
“Father, to be identified with the Lord Jesus Christ, far exceeds any other association I could ever have. I share a name with a nation, an assembly, a family and with Linda. Our reputation is linked with those names. The name “Christian” has far reaching effects. May I never sully the savor of His holy name. Amen.”
