1 Timothy 2:13

ADAM

ADAM. 1st Timothy 2:13. When Eve acted independently, mankind's fall occurred. The effects of that continue today, and boundaries are still being ignored. Eve was deceived and seduced. She stepped out of her place and overturned the divine order God had established. She took authority she did not have. Adam was not deceived like Eve. He understood the consequences of his actions. Therefore, his guilt was greater because he was aware of what he was doing. He knowingly surrendered his authority and, for her sake, took the leadership that ultimately brought death for sin upon all humanity. Now, in the assembly, God has reaffirmed the facts and actions of headship. Acceptance of the scriptural order by both men and women is necessary for proper public testimony.

The name “Adam” simply means “a man,” but that name carries a potential that can be very powerful for both man and God. Adam was created to represent his Lord because he was made in God's image. The responsibility was given by God when He created Adam and Eve. Adam chose to sin deliberately by taking the forbidden fruit out of love for Eve. Eve made her decision because her response to Satan's deceptive words was to believe him. She was deceived, but Adam fell by choice and transgression.

Adam and Eve's responses were used to highlight who serves as spokespersons for the assembly during public meetings. Emotions, feelings, or reactions to suggestions from others that motivate us to act are not acceptable. Careful examination of what the scriptures say in their context and a biblical application to a doctrine or practice qualifies a person to speak on behalf of the assembly. The Holy Spirit guides and grants the authority to participate audibly for the assembly.

Being first in order is a great privilege because God is there to guide us in every step we take. Man was created first, and God instructed him to live by and lead his wife. It was his responsibility to direct their lives. His wife had every reason to respond to his leadership because he was the one God chose to direct their activities and promote their relationship. This order remains the same in humankind's actions. When this is maintained, we find it to be the best way to live.

This should be maintained in a scripturally gathered church of God. The order God established in families is the same one that can support the proper functioning of spiritual gifts as different roles are filled. Everyone understands what God wants, and competition is not acceptable. Let every man take this to heart; God made him who he is. Each man has a work to do that is unique to him because the Holy Spirit knows what's needed and who can meet that need. Let each brother and sister use their God-given nature to fulfill what God intends. Then, in the divine order of the sexes, each complements the other.
