BEING DECEIVED WAS IN THE TRANSGRESSION. 1st Timothy 2:14 The role of women in an assembly is fulfilled through accepting their God-given position. God allowed the events in the Garden of Eden to establish the pattern for how human life functions in an orderly manner. The original deception has prevented women from teaching in public, but not from teaching in general. Older women are tasked with teaching the younger [Titus 2:3-4]. They are to teach at home [2Tim.1:5; 3:15], following the example of Lois and Eunice, who taught Timothy through both word and example of genuine faith. Aquila and Priscilla were a godly couple who privately instructed Apollos [Acts 18:24-28].
There are reasons for this order: men are the spiritual leaders. It reflects the order of creation. Adam was formed first, then Eve [1Tim.2:12-13; 1Cor.11:1-10]. Priority does not mean superiority; it signifies authority. Second, mankind’s fall into sin began when the woman was deceived [2Cor.11:3; Gal.3:1]. The man sinned knowingly. Women are protected through childbirth, in which their role is to care for the home and bear children to the glory of God [1 Tim.5:14]. Deliverance has come through the incarnation. Salvation, for both men and women, involves faith, love, and holiness, requiring self-control in daily life. A woman’s daily salvation isn’t about taking on a public teaching role but about accepting responsibility within her God-given realm through faith. From the responsibilities of childbearing, women can understand and pass on truths about trust, submission, service, and love.
I’m sure it’s not always true, but here’s something to consider. A conman often targets a woman to mislead, suggest, and try to manipulate her response to his sales pitch. He’ll come up with some unusual claim and then attempt to make her believe she needs it. He tells her that her life would be much easier if she bought this unit. The shady salesman wants to make the sale while her husband is away so he won’t question her interest and give his opinion. A deceiver is skilled at sleight of hand and says if she listens to him and acts quickly, what he sells will save her a lot of time every day.
This technique is not new; Satan used it long ago. Appealing to a woman's curiosity, he targeted Eve with questions about God and His word to deceive her. Before long, both the man and woman realized that their actions threatened their relationship and happy union. If the man did what was right, he would be separated from his wife. She had been deceived, which is true, but her actions were still wrong. He had to make a choice. His love for her was strong, and her beauty and companionship made her a perfect helper for him. So, when she offered him the fruit she had already eaten, he agreed, choosing to go against God’s righteous plan of his own accord. He deliberately disobeyed the sovereign God.
Looking back on that scene, we see lessons we can learn. One is that God intends for a man to love his wife genuinely, but he shouldn't leave her to make big decisions alone. You’ve earned her trust, and someone has to make final decisions in everyday life. The results of wrong decisions caused by those who deceive us can negatively impact a home and a church. God established roles in order, and through man’s transgression, everyone faces the consequences of sin because of the deception of that day.
