TRUSTWORTHY SAYINGS. 1st Timothy 4:9. The words of scripture in a person's own soul convey the value of "the faith" to those who hear his teaching. Practicing what is right and avoiding what is wrong are fundamental in Christian ministry. Behind both of these is the standard of godliness, which comes through self-discipline, studying the word of God, conscious fellowship with the Lord, and righteous conduct in life as a testimony to "the faith."
This "faithful saying," the significant truth that has been taught, is very important in our lives. As disciples of the Lord, there is work we must do, which means we need to refuse certain actions and train ourselves in others. “This is a faithful saying” is a phrase that highlights the eternal significance of spiritual discipline that leads to godliness and is a crucial truth—“worthy of all acceptance.”
Our God-given gifts and talents are meant to be used in our service and work among God's people. Working in service and with loyalty to God and our calling is worth every effort. Even when someone is tired and feels they cannot go on, God can give us the strength to fulfill His purpose. Our trust is in Him, not ourselves. There will be reproach and opposition in service that we might face, and there may never be any recognition from others. In our personal service to God, our hope is in "the living God." We live through Him, for Him, and in Him.
God is not limited in any way like we are. Despite the traits of the latter days, we receive counsel from those God has raised up. With caution, aware of our limitations, we press on confidently, knowing that the commandments we are to pass on are backed by His divine authority. He is the "Savior of all men." No one would survive without God's gracious provisions. No one can live apart from the life He gives. The salvation of our souls is a blessing He grants to those who believe in Him. This teaching should be shared urgently. There is divine authority behind this message, which must be proclaimed by those given this charge.
Behind all our blessings is God’s hand, providing for all our needs—not just to give us life, because He is the Source of it, but so that we might have “life indeed.” He gives us a full cup of blessing that truly satisfies us and gives us meaning and purpose, so that when we begin each day, we gladly do the work He assigns us. The first trustworthy saying makes it clear that when Christ came to earth, He came to save us from our sins. That is a fact of invaluable worth. It reminds me that I do not deserve this salvation, but it is an act of grace and love that motivates me to serve my Lord.
The second faithful saying prompts me to consider whether I am willing to pay the price of training myself to live out true godliness every day and commit to it for my whole life. That means I am willing to take Christ’s yoke on myself and follow Him daily, resisting the temptations that come before me and distancing myself from them.
A third trustworthy saying makes me remember Christ’s death and resurrection. Then, in practical ways, my conscience pushes me toward true identification. I understand that includes water baptism, but almost everyone who saw that is gone. Identification with Christ is a daily way of living that honors Him, who is now on the throne.
A fourth faithful saying reminds me of the importance of God’s mercy and grace. It also urges me to live out the blessings He has given me through a life of faith. Good works often show what words cannot fully express. Doing good in Christ’s name reaches every person in need, regardless of gender. What we say about God to others and what God communicates to us is crucial because their impact shapes us and others for eternity. If I listen to and follow God's faithful saying, I will become what He intends. When I share His word with others, they may listen to Him.
