1 Timothy 6:13

HIGHEST AUTHORITY

HIGHEST AUTHORITY. 1st Timothy 6:13. When a serious man makes a serious demand, we give it serious attention. We are called to take some serious action when a serious God gives a serious command. It is no trivial matter when both the Father and Son call us to move forward in faith and then pass on the message of eternal life to others by presenting the Gospel of God’s free grace.

This serious charge does not come solely from the One who called us to preach the gospel; He is also the One who paid the price of sin through His sacrificial death on the cross. This challenge to our faithfulness in spreading the Gospel also carries the authority of Jesus Christ. He understands its value and our need; eternal life is His nature, which He has made available to everyone who repents of their sin and accepts God’s forgiveness by placing their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Through His life and before Pilate, the judge, He made a clear confession about who He is. He set an example for us to follow.

When the eternal God of heaven, the Man, Christ Jesus, calls us to be witnesses for Him in this world, the charge we have received is not to be taken lightly. The urgency of this calling compels us to get to work and press forward in this spiritual warfare, to fight the good fight of faith. People need God’s salvation, which is only available in this lifetime. They must be called to respond to the call to repentance and to put their faith in Christ.

Don’t listen to smooth-talking teachers who, for fame and greed, preach a false sense of security that makes people believe they are right before God just as they are. In this day of departure, when more and more people turn away from the truth and what God has charged us to do, we must stem the tide. We should not allow a single day to pass without doing something that will build God’s kingdom.

Paul, the faithful soldier, gave this charge to Timothy in God's presence. God attests that it is true, and Timothy is accountable for fulfilling it. The One who paid the price of redemption is Jesus Christ, the Lord, and He will be with us until this fight of faith is finished.

The highest authority observed the second charge to Timothy. God gives life through His creative power and spiritual life to those who accept our Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. The example for Timothy and us is the public testimony of our Lord Jesus Christ. When He was challenged, He did not deny who He was or the authority He possessed. He fought the good fight of faith when before Pilate and testified to being the truth and having supreme authority. This charge was not a suggestion for Timothy to consider; it was the core of his lifelong calling. The Father revealed the Son for who He is. He is the Controller of all authority because He is the King over kings and the Lord over all lords. Every authority on earth is under divine authority. In Himself, there is no subjection to death or darkness of any kind. His light is moral, spiritual, and physical because He is the Light of the World.
