FAITH AT HOME. 2nd Timothy 1:5 Our home life is where the light and life of salvation are visible. The attitudes and actions of believers reveal their faith in the Lord. True faith cannot be hidden from children, who observe their parents from their earliest days. Lasting impressions form early in life. Evidence of faith in someone is shown through their actions and words. My attitude toward God and others, marked by trust and confidence, cannot be concealed from a discerning person, nor can falsehood. When God saves a family member, the reality of salvation soon becomes evident. Our words and actions must align with a consistent Christian life.
The reality of faith was genuine in Timothy's home. Lois, Timothy’s grandmother, and Eunice, his mother, demonstrated this faith to Timothy, regardless of whether his father was a believer. These two women knew who they were and understood their duties and responsibilities. Their prayers, testimony, and faith played key roles in Timothy's life and spiritual growth. True faith in Christ must be nurtured by those who love and care for young believers. Lois and Eunice did not hide their light, even though his father might not have been a believer.
The will of God is not always clear just because I want to do something for the Lord. The plan or path in front of me is often unclear until later when God reveals what is proper to do and when the timing is right. The reason may be that if I knew what God wanted and acted immediately, I wouldn’t experience the fellowship and heart's exercise I get when I stop to pray, read the scriptures, and prepare for what lies ahead.
Understanding our role in life and within our families can cultivate fear and respect for God and His holiness in our children and grandchildren. Then, when we read the Bible and pray with them, there is fertile ground for the word of God to germinate, take root, grow, and bear good fruit. The warmth of godliness and the light of God's word together bring life out of the Gospel seed.
Spiritual development in children requires time, effort, and personal dedication. Your joy, kindness, and genuine convictions will reflect the love of Christ and your love for them, demonstrating your sincere concern and the reality of your beliefs.
If God allowed us to know what would happen next, we might stop because the task seems too overwhelming or the opposition feels too strong for me. God’s will does not always mean I will have peace or come out on top. The will of God may even lead me to deliberately avoid the pressure, and I might never experience God's presence when I feel overwhelmed. There are some things God has planned for us that we didn’t realize when He called and saved us. All we knew then was that I was forgiven and accepted by God in Christ Jesus. What was unknown at the time was that the Spirit of God had gifted us, and through divine power, we might help lift others’ burdens.
