2 Timothy 1:6

FAN INTO FLAME

FAN INTO FLAME. 2nd Timothy 1:6 Gifts are recognizable when those serving God actively pursue their calling. We should never dismiss the advice of others, especially mature believers who have been tested and proven in their Christian walk. Opposition against us and the message we share is to be expected. We should remain bold and loyal despite opposition and suffering. We must not let people intimidate us or cause us to become weak. Nothing should prevent us from doing effective work for the Lord. God's power is unlimited in every way. We should neither quench nor grieve the Holy Spirit, and we definitely should not let others' opinions slow or stop our enthusiasm for God's work.

These individual gifts, whether from persons or God-given abilities, can be used in the church to develop unknown capacities to comfort, encourage, and edify the saints of God so they will share God’s truth through their lives and testimonies. I am not, by my own power, able to be the person God wants me to be or do the work He truly desires. Therefore, the Spirit of God, who dwells within every believer, empowers me and all saints to deliver God’s Word to the people, places, and events He chooses. By God’s will and gift, the Gospel and God’s truth are proclaimed through each saint, and darkness is removed from the minds and eyes of those who hear God’s truth and see it lived out in people like Lois and Eunice. By God's power, lost souls are brought to new life by the Spirit and the word of God. No one can boast, for all that is achieved is of God, who uses His people to further declare His Word. Whether one sows or reaps, each one fulfills the part God gives to those who serve Him from the heart.

Because of that evident, indwelling, consistent, and genuine faith, Paul urged Timothy (as a dying man would) to keep pushing forward in the work he was called to do. Passion and dedication to God's work tend to weaken unless they are driven by the urgency of the message and the need we recognize. Others trusted in Timothy, and he needed to remember that. It would be wrong for us to disappoint those who entrusted us with such an important responsibility.
