2 Timothy 2:19

THE LORD KNOWS

THE LORD KNOWS. 2nd Timothy 2:19. The foundation is unmovable, unshakeable, unassailable, reliable, undeniable, indissoluble, knowable, honorable – THE FOUNDATION OF GOD STANDS SURE! God is the Builder and Maker of the Promised City Abraham looked for: I am thankful that I, too, can live with assurance forever in such a place with such a foundation. And I am grateful that the truths life is built on for those who love the Lord are solid, unchanging, and inspiring.

The firm foundation of the body of Christ remains unaffected by Christendom's failures. God’s truth is rooted in the word of God. Despite the distortions by false teachers attempting to twist biblical teachings to fit their narratives, the seal of God on His truth and His people remains crucial. The foundation is solid, unchanging, and secure, and it will stay that way.

It never ceases to amaze me that the Divine Building Inspector knows every stone laid on that foundation, and everyone fits in the place He intended. Every chip off the block, every hammer blow, every chisel mark bears the impression that the One who formed it knew exactly what He was doing. The shape, the position, and the stones next to each other are all correct because He understands each one, and the foundation is as solid as the Lord’s impeccable integrity.

The difference between the false, quarrelsome speculation of men and the certain, unchangeable truth of God is clear. The solid foundation of God's truth cannot be shaken, it does not decay, and it cannot be broken. No matter what lies are told or what opposition arises against it - it applies everywhere: to every place, every age, every culture, and every religion. Those who truly know the Lord will recognize its authority and will turn away from anything that contradicts God's revealed will. The seal signifies the security of those who belong to Him, contrasting false teachers, and the ownership of the Lord that instructs us to separate from evil teachings and those who teach them.

Two facts confirm our salvation, like inscriptions on a foundation: The Lord knows who belongs to Him, and we know we belong to Him because we have turned away from sinful living and reject false teachings. “Know” in this verse, as it is often used in scriptures, means an intimate relationship with us. Our responsibility as believers is to turn away from and reject any form of wickedness. We cannot have fellowship with God and continue to sin.

“He knows…” What a powerful statement this is! “He knows…” eliminates any attempt at subterfuge! “He knows…” implies that despite what I may try to portray, the real motivation behind an action is clear to God. “He knows…” states that no matter what others think, say, or how I feel in the moment, no manipulation can change what is. “He knows…” reminds me from beginning to end, “He knows…” so there's no point in hiding anything. Even when others misunderstand, complain, or criticize, “He knows…” the motive behind actions, the reason for mistakes, guilt, or failure. “He knows…,” so I can live with a clear conscience or doubt, and even when I can’t clearly explain myself, “He knows…” what I mean before I speak. “He knows…” I am His; He is mine and loves me!

Loyalty in devoted service reminds us of the character of a servant of the Lord. There is an awareness of whom we serve and what He is like by nature. The expectation of a servant is that he reflects the character of the One he serves. The calling of the servant anticipates his faithfulness in the ministry he has been given because he is to do what he does "as to the Lord, and not unto men." The challenge of the servant is to practice what he preaches in public. Even though some people turn away from the truth, that doesn't change the truth in any way. The "foundation of God" has stood firm and will stand when all other opinions and philosophies fade away.

The stones of truth forming the foundation are not moved by the opinions of false teachers who believe what they say is more important than what God has said and has been proven true for centuries. Millions of believers have demonstrated the truths contained therein, on which we build our homes of faith, hope, and love, long before such self-opinionated teachers were born. The seal is easy to understand; the Lord knows who belongs to Him. The evidence is clear: Those who believe in Him are not inclined to sin.

Nothing on earth or in hell will break or destroy those truths. Any false teaching has no value because those foundation stones are of unmatched worth. Heaven and earth may pass away, but these truths will remain forever unchanged. Although moral and religious changes come and go, and people stray, God's foundation remains the same. It is on this foundation that we must make our commitment and stand against all attacks from the world, the flesh, and the devil. Our faith is rooted in the everlasting truths of the eternal God, and we raise our hands in loyalty to our Lord and the great commission He gave us. He alone is the rock upon which we build the church He came to save.
