2 Timothy 2:20

USEFUL CONTAINERS

USEFUL CONTAINERS. 2nd Timothy 2:20 The church is built on the solid foundation that whatever the Lord does cannot fail or be stopped by human words and ideas. However, in this world, “Christianity,” as most people understand it, doesn’t consist only of true believers in the Lord Jesus Christ. Many claim to be Christians, but there is no proof they know Jesus personally, no reality in their Christian words, and no sign of divine nature in them. In the “great house of Christian profession,” there are clear differences in the material of the “vessels” they are made of, and also in how those vessels are used.

It's unclear whether “honor” and “dishonor” signify more or less honor. If that is the case, it suggests that some believers are more important than others, which is not true. Their roles in serving God may be more vital because of the calling and gifts God has given them. The responsibility of spiritual leaders is greater than others because of their influence on people.

Quietly, he stands waiting like a vessel to be used by the Master for purposes that may be known only to Him. He is not acting arbitrarily or trying to do things independently or for his own satisfaction. His role is that of a trusted servant who is committed to the truth, and he must have the patience to wait and hold what he has been given, even if the Master is gone for a long period.

Perhaps he has served the Master of the house faithfully since his youth, and now he believes it's reasonable to quit before he gets too old to do some things he wants for himself. But after thinking it over, he remembers the love and trust the Master has for him, and he stays loyal to his calling and his Master. Even if others leave, he will serve the Master alone.

Much can be learned from the different occupations the Lord has assigned to His people. Each of us needs to understand the role we have been given and dedicate ourselves to fulfilling that calling with energy and enthusiasm. We should never be caught sleeping when we are supposed to be in the battle. May we keep our eyes fixed on the unseen goal beyond the day of reward and work diligently in the field where we are called to serve! Never leave the work unfinished, but always be ready to listen for God’s voice and act on His commands.
