2 Timothy 4:12

A DEAR BROTHER

A DEAR BROTHER. 2nd Timothy 4:12 It is important that we appreciate our fellow-laborers and their faithfulness to God. In fact, it is appropriate to let them know that from time to time. They may not do the same things we do; if they do, it may be done differently from what we are used to. But that should not mean that if they are committed to doing the work of the Lord scripturally, we should not appreciate them and what they do. That helps build lasting relationships today with people who may be older or younger. It is not so much the age of our friends that counts but the things we share in common as we serve our Lord.

Tychicus was a “dear brother” to Paul, a faithful servant to the Lord’s people, and a fellow worker for those who labored in the Lord’s work. He didn’t seem to be someone concerned with a public role or recognition, but he knew what was needed and was willing to do whatever he was asked for the overall good of the work.

He could be trusted to provide an accurate and honest report of the circumstances surrounding the Lord’s work, whether good or bad. He knew when encouragement was needed and offered it. He was a constant and dependable help in the assemblies in Asia, and Paul knew he was the right person to send to Ephesus to replace Timothy when he came to Rome to bring Paul what he needed. Paul was loyal to his fellow servants, and most of them were loyal to him.
