2 Timothy 4:13

REQUESTS

REQUESTS. 2nd Timothy 4:13 Paul knew he had been faithful to God's call, and now it was his duty to prepare younger people to lead God's people and spread the Gospel elsewhere. Demas abandoned Paul in his time of need, and Carpus and Titus had left Paul to handle things on their own. Carpus was a trustworthy person at his home in Troas. Paul sent Tychicus because he trusted that he would help the Ephesian believers when Timothy left them to bring what Paul needed. The books were papyrus scrolls used for letters and documents. Parchments were dressed skins for more valuable material that would last longer than papyrus. Perhaps they contained the Old Testament scriptures that he still wanted to read. One thing we know about the scriptures is that they are inspired by the Holy Spirit. Even if they seem to serve no impactful purpose because they appear merely personal, blessing can still be found in reading them. We learn that we can get physically cold in our fragile humanity and need the warmth of a proper garment. We also understand that in our souls and spirits, we need the warmth and blessings that come from reading the word of God and writing down the thoughts and lessons we learn from the Bible. We may not have many close friendships with people because of our work's nature, but the scriptures of truth are like the warmth of a good, lasting friendship. That friendship is often built on the shared hardships we endure when we obey the words we read.
