FLEE AND FOLLOW. 2nd Timothy2:22

FLEE AND FOLLOW. 2nd Timothy2:22 When we pursue righteousness, we are running away from sin and its consequences. We will follow one or the other, but we cannot do both simultaneously. There is no connection between the two. “Youthful lusts” refer not only to sexual temptations but also to anything that opposes holiness in God's sight. It is crucial for a believer to stay as far away as possible from anything that appeals to our sinful nature. It is just as important to recognize when to run as it is to know how and when to fight.

In our lives before the world, we should be recognized as honest, fair, and committed to doing what is right—righteousness. Not only is righteousness required in scripture as a character trait of believers, but it must also be pursued to attain it. This testimony will positively influence both saved and unsaved people. Integrity, which may mean faithfulness due to sincere confidence in God, even in difficult situations, will also be a beneficial aspect of everyday life.

Pursuing love involves finding ways to show our love for God and others by “looking out for the things of others.” This doesn't mean meddling in their affairs but instead means seeking ways to represent the love of our Lord Jesus Christ. By nature, love is unselfish, kind, patient, and a blessing to others when we personally practice the attributes of love listed in 1st Corinthians 13. Peace and love are connected because peace comes from the harmony, fellowship, and unity that love fosters.

These virtues are found in those who can call on the Lord with a pure heart. A pure heart is expected in the children of God. We should separate ourselves from contentious, wicked people and instead pursue and associate with fellow believers who walk in fellowship and purity with the Lord. It was never God’s plan for us to isolate ourselves from other believers but to work and live with them as members of the same body. Although we are all different, the harmony among all members gives us united strength, enabling us to accomplish much to bring glory to our Lord Jesus Christ.
